Identifying Characteristics
- Pillbugs measure ¼-½ inch in size and are either light or dark gray in color
- When disturbed, they roll up into a tight ball allowing their armor to protect their soft underbelly and many legs
- Also known as “Potato Bugs” or “Roly-Polies”
Active Season
- Pillbugs are most common during Spring and Summer
- They are mostly found in gardens and mulchy areas
- An indoor infestation generally means a large outdoor population
Interesting Facts
- Pillbugs are actually a crustacean; more related to a crayfish than to insects
