Clothing Moths : What you need to know
Identifying Characteristics
- Clothing Moths are a light brown and measure ¼ – ½ inches in length
- The larvae and eggs are likely to be found in closets, or anywhere clothes are stored
- The adults weave a web similar to cobwebs that may be found in folds of clothing or corners of where clothes are stored
- Commonly mistaken for Grain Moths
Active Season
- Clothing Moths tend to be found indoors, so they may be active all year long
Interesting Facts
- Only the larvae tend to cause damage, as the adults sole purpose is for reproduction
- While the larval stage can take up to 2 years, the adult’s life span is only 1 month
Cause for Concern
- Clothing Moth larvae can cause severe damage to stored clothing
- Under some circumstances they can also infest stored foods much like their Grain Moth relatives
