Identifying Characteristics
- Sand Bees are either black and yellow or black and white with green eyes
- Generally noticed within large aggregations (burrowing/nesting areas)
- They are often confused with Yellow Jackets when nesting in the ground, but have entrances to each of their individual burrows , while Yellow Jacket swarms enter the same hole for their nest

- Active season is in late Summer

- Sand Bees fill their chambers with dead insects
- Some flies and wasps try to steal from their storage and may end up prey themselves
Cause for Concern
- Sand Bees tend to nest in large aggregations thus becoming a nuisance
- Can damage a lawn or garden by burrowing
