Identifying Characteristics
- Millipede species come in a wide range of sizes from 2 millimeters to 15 inches in length
- They appear wormlike except with legs along its underbelly
- Millipedes will curl up their bodies into a tight spiral while at rest or when they feel threatened, in order to protect its belly
Active Season
- Millipedes are most active during Spring and Summer
- They can be seen year-round inside
Interesting Facts
- The word Millipede means “thousand foot” however the record holding Millipede had only 750 feet
- Most home invading Millipedes are 1-1½ inches, however some have been found as long as 15 inches in length
Cause for Concern
- When Millipedes are found indoors it is often a sign that there is a moisture problem in the area
- They do not damage any household items or structure but are mostly regarded as unsightly and intimidating
