Identifying Characteristics
- The Cigarette Beetle measures 3-4 millimeters in length
- They are red-brown to yellow-brown in color
- The adults are oval shaped and larvae are long and appear fuzzy
- They are very attracted to light
- The Cigarette Beetle is similar in appearance to the Drugstore Beetle but is more round than the slender Drugstore beetle
Active Season
- Active year-round but become more populous in winter months
Interesting Facts
- The Cigarette Beetle does not feed as an adult, but their larvae feed and cause damage
- They are associated mostly with tobacco but feed on a variety of food sources (grains, herbs, vegetables etc.)
Cause for Concern
- They will infest and destroy stored food products and sometimes fabrics and upholstery
