Bumble Bees : What you need to know
Identifying Characteristics
- Bumble Bees measure between ½ to ⅞ inches in length
- They are a hairy, social bee and usually black and yellow
- They very closely resemble Honey Bees but are significantly larger
- Their nests are usually found in dry dark cavities or underground
Active Season
- Bumble Bees are most active during their mating season in Spring and early Summer
- They remain active throughout the Summer and into the Fall

- Fifty species of Bumble Bees are known in North America
- Bumble Bee wings can beat as many as 240 times per second
- They can visit up to 6,000 flowers in a day
